Study Hard, Think Quietly, Talk Gently.

“Study hard, think quietly, talk gently.”, said by William E Channing, a great public speaker from the 19th century. This quote is about students and how they should first study hard. Second think quietly and finally talk gently. These are the three main things this quote is talking about.

These three things have a lot of meaning within them and make me think a lot about being a student. The first thing William Channing says is, “Study hard”. To me, this means students have to study very hard to keep up with the classes they are taking. This is very good advice because a student will surely fail if he or she does not know material on a test or quiz they will have to take. The second piece of advice that is given in the quote would be, “Think quietly.”. When I think about this part of the quote many things come to mind. One of these ideas would be to keep quiet because you could have a really good idea that someone might want to use if they heard you say it. Finally, the last part, “Talk gently.” reminds me of not being distracted from your work and trying to talk very little. Talking could do many things to ruin your progress in s class by distracting you or even getting you in trouble. You never want to be distracted in a class because then you will not be doing your best work. These are three great rules to go by when in school.

I’m sure that many students go by these three rules. I know already that lots of students try to study hard for quizzes and tests. Most students try to think quietly to. It is not an easy thing for students not to talk though. I know sometimes I want to say something to a friend while in class but I have to try not to. I’m sure that William E Channing abbided by theses three rules when he was a student.
